Australasian Law Awards

The Australasian Law Awards celebrate the outstanding achievements of Australia and New Zealand's leading legal professionals, firms and in-house teams for their contribution to the industry over the past year. They are also a way to recognise the big deals that have occupied the profession.

The awards define excellence in the legal profession, the awards night typically attracts over 650 guests and is held at the Star Sydney.

Have a look at the highlights of the 2019 night here.

Unfortunately, due to recent developments in Australia, we won’t be able to run a face-to-face gala dinner this year. While we’re disappointed that we’re not going to be seeing you at our face-to-face event, we’ve come up with a unique format to recognise and celebrate excellence across the Australasian legal profession.

Due to the high calibre of nominations this year, we will be recognising several excellence awards in addition to the winners of each category.

The winners and excellence awards will be announced on Australasian Lawyer next week. For more information on the format and dates click here.

2016 was a year of major growth for Nexus, with the firm more than doubling in size and significantly expanding its presence in NSW with the appointment of more than 15 lawyers in senior practice roles.

Nexus is a true boutique with a core speciality in construction and infrastructure, with 8 of the 15 new lawyers joining that national team.  Its lawyers specialise in full project delivery from planning and acquisition, through procurement and construction, and in managing disputes and security of payment issues.

It advises across on projects nationally, including coal and gas, new energy, major infrastructure and remediation projects, large scale inner-city redevelopments and construction and residential building.

Nexus Law Group is a leading ‘NewLaw’ firms and the only business in Australia running a law firm based on the embedded connection of independent, senior lawyers.  Nexus is connected by its creation of its unique OpenLaw practice management system. Projects in 2016 included the acquisition, development and construction of a 200+ room hotel, advising on major civil works at Barangaroo, the northwest rail link and the construction and delivery of new energy projects including solar and wind projects.  The team also further expanded into GC and senior in-house contract placements, including on NorthConnex and with Vector Energy.

This expansion into major projects was done whilst still maintaining a strong focus on helping residential builders and owners navigate the domestic building issues, all while developing new technology and systems to support cost effective client solutions.
